It’s to potentially motivate someone who may be otherwise sedentary into doing something, anything, to improve their lifestyle. The primary goal of these devices is to get (or keep) people moving and active. It’s important to understand that step/activity monitors aren’t really a substitute for something like a GPS running watch, heart rate monitor or cycling computer.
